You know what I hate most about modern life? The expectation that I should answer my phone. Back when I was a child, nobody had cell phones and answering machines. Sure, they were available, but only if you were James Bond. Anyway, the expectation that someone would actually pick up the phone when called was pretty slim. Oftentimes, phone calls had to be coordinated in advance, in order to be sure your friend would be home and nearby the phone to pick it up. If a person deigned to answer the phone, it was a privilege. A privilege!   ~ Emery Lamb
