My Dad was a funny guy. He could do the Tim Conway old man bit to a T. As 2nd Counselor to the Bishop of our Mormon congregation, he would conduct worship services and bust out a dad joke over the pulpit when it was his turn to introduce the speakers. One Sunday, a prominent church bigwig named Hartman Rector Jr. was scheduled to speak and Dad did one of his milder dad jokes to a soft tittering in the congregation.
Then he said, “Now, I would like to turn the time over to our guest speaker, Hartley Rectum Jr.”
I’ll never forget the gasp from the congregation and the look of panic on my Dad’s face before he sat down. That was his best joke ever and sis and I never let him forget it. ~ Emery Lamb
