I found some old LP records of my parents and started playing Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass on the hi-fi, which immediately brought back the urge to grab a couple of friends and lay out two 12-foot long bamboo poles in parallel and start tinikling. One of the favorite pastimes of the 1970’s was gross cultural misappropriation, and one of my happiest childhood memories involved a Philippine national dance played to faux-Mexican mariachi music by a white, Jewish-American trumpeter.  ~ Emery Lamb
